Lavaliering and pinning seem to be more special to Centre students, however. Usually the only couples who get pinned to each other are those who see marriage in their futures.
Whether the crime is shirting, lavaliering, or pinning, the punishment is similar within individual fraternities. While some fraternities have their members run the Flame even for giving a girl heir shirts (with their fraternity letters on it), other fraternities reserve "punishment" for pinnings and engagements.
Last night's treeing was held because a young man gave his fraternity pin to his girlfriend. His brothers dragged him behind the upperclassmen women's dorm and tied him to a light pole. As the women crowded to the windows to watch, the guys cheered and carried out their punishment.
